Colin Kimpel, CFP, Veritas Financial,Years in Industry:15

Colin Kimpel started his career in financial services with MassMutual in 2004 after working in the telecom industry.  He operates a boutique collaborative practice, by the name of Veritas Financial in the Washington DC area, with his two partners. Colin uses fee-based financial planning to help his clients, the majority of which are business owners and executives.

Colin is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He is a Certified Financial PlannerTM Professional (CFP®) and a Certified Family Business Specialist (CFBS). He is also a member of the Leadership for Advanced Life Underwriting (AALU) and the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA).  He serves on an advisory committee to a Fortune 100 financial services company with the goal of improving client experience through the use of technology.  Colin was also awarded Washingtonian Magazine’s distinction as one of the area’s Best Financial Advisors.

He is actively is involved in Leadership Greater Washington and in EODC, the Entrepreneurship Organization for business owners in the DC area, where he was also a board member.  In addition, Colin volunteers on two non-profit boards concerned with children’s wellbeing and education: For Love of Children (FLOC), serving as Board Chair, which provides after-school programs to underprivileged children, and Alternative Paths Training School, a school for children with developmental disabilities.

Outside of work, Colin is an avid automobile racer, CrossFitter, golfer and a big fan of live music and sporting events. He resides in Bethesda, MD, with his wife, Suzanne (who recently joined Veritas to support with business operations and strategy), and their three young children, Jackie (8), Sean (5), and Charlie (2).

Sean Joiner, First Financial Group,Years in the Industry:11

Sean joined First Financial Group (FFG) in 2008 as a Financial Representative.  He developed a strong practice, earning back-to-back firm sales awards until he turned his attention to leadership and the strategic growth of the firm. Entering the management track at FFG as a Sales Manager in 2010, Sean quickly discovered his innate ability to source and recruit individuals who would excel and go on to become the company’s top advisors.  Taking on the responsibilities of Executive Vice President of FFG in 2015, he was a key contributor to the firm’s 300% growth in areas of productivity, revenue, and talent. Along with facilitating the rapid growth of the company, he aided in the expansion of First Financial Group’s footprint from two core offices into eight locations across the mid-Atlantic. In 2019, Sean joined CEO Lloyd Polmateer as an equity stake holder in the company.  Serving on FFG’s leadership team as President, he oversees multiple facets of the business, including talent acquisition, training and development, and finance

Prior to joining FFG, during his undergraduate years at The Catholic University of America (CUA), Sean was inspired to start a real estate development business. After graduation, Sean and another former CUA student invested in properties across D.C., finding creative and innovative ways to renovate these properties into new housing. The most notable of these projects, D.C.’s first apartment building constructed with shipping containers, received national media recognition, and was ranked by the Washington Business Journal in their Top 25 Best Real Estate Deals of the year for his efforts in creating innovative housing. 

Sean is active in his industry and in his community.  He has spearheaded FFG’s community outreach program fostering a culture of giving throughout the company with matching funds and organized volunteer efforts for great organizations like Habitat for Humanity, DC Central Kitchen and Wreaths Across America. He is a member of NAIFA, GAMMA, and AALU. Sean has been featured in the NCAA’s “After the Game” web series highlighting excellence after college.  Sean is a four-year qualifier and winner of Guardian’s Presidential Citation Award, and a three-year qualifier for Guardian’s Leader’s Club Award.

Outside of his professional life, Sean resides in Chevy Chase, MD with his wife Mallory, their baby girl Ellie Anne, and their bulldog mix, Boss. Sean is passionate about college football (especially if the Georgia Bulldogs are playing), enjoys fishing, a game of golf, and, top of his list, is spending time with this family.

Carissa MillerTransamerica, Years in the Industry:14

Carissa Miller joined Transamerica in 2014 and has more than 14 years of experience in the financial services industry. Carissa focuses on retirement income solutions. 

Carissa works with financial professionals to assist them in helping individuals gain confidence as they embark on their retirement journey. She lives her life by the wise words of Abraham Lincoln who said, “The only way to predict the future is to create it.” It is Carissa’s desire that people do not just survive retirement, but that they thrive in retirement living out their hopes and dreams. Prior to Transamerica, Carissa was a Regional Vice President at Jackson National Life where she learned that dreams do come true when she became the first woman in the history of Jackson to finish first in sales, earning the title “Wholesaler of Year.” Carissa currently resides on her “dream farm” in Maryland with her husband Clark. In her free time, Carissa is a certified Equine Assisted Life Coach and loves traveling, practicing yoga, reading, and spending time with her two horses, Iris and Sterling

Nathan Moore, AXA Advisors, Years in the Industry:15

Nathan Moore began his career with AXA Advisors in Cleveland, Ohio in 2004. Since then, he has worked his way up, becoming a Vice President in Cleveland in 2007, where he built a team of over 20 financial professionals. It was then that his success in leadership took off, receiving several AXA awards, including the National Builders Trophy in both 2011 and 2012. In 2013, Nathan was promoted to the Executive Vice President role within AXA Advisors, becoming the youngest in company history to hold the title. Knowing his determination and capabilities, he was tasked by leadership to head up the North Florida-South Georgia marketplace. Nathan’s success continued, and in 2015, was named one of Jacksonville Business Journal’s “40 under 40” award recipients. He was also awarded his first President’s Trophy within AXA Advisors for Outstanding Branch Performance the same year. Staying with the company, Nathan moved to Washington, D.C. in November of 2016, where he subsequently was awarded the President’s Trophy again in 2018. Nathan now co-manages a firm within AXA Advisors known as The Capital, which is comprised of over 250 team members throughout Maryland, Washington D.C., and the Commonwealth of Virginia

In addition to his Leadership role, Nathan also works with select clients as a Retirement Planning Specialist, an AXA Advisors title he earned through Certificate in Retirement Planning from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. The Wharton School is recognized around the world for its academic excellence at every level of business education. Nathan holds is FINRA series 7, 24, 53 and 66 registrations as well as the appropriate Life and Health licenses.

In addition to internally, Nathan’s leadership has been recognized nationally within the industry as well. In 2012, Nathan was awarded the International Management Award from GAMA International. He was recognized again in 2016 as a member of their Leaders of Today and Tomorrow segment in GAMA Magazine as well as in 2018 as GAMA’s Volunteer of the Year. Nathan is an active member of GAMA as well, serving as a member of the Recognition Committee, the Membership Committee and as a GAMA Foundation Ambassador.

Currently, Nathan is an active member of NAIFA-Greater Washington, D.C., where he serves as a member of the board and is one NAIFA-Greater Washington DC’s Four Under Forty award recipients. He is an active member of AALU and a coach for Vienna Little League Baseball. He works closely with the Hiring Our Heroes Fellowship Program, which helps veterans separating from service pursue careers in a variety of industries. He volunteers with Junior Achievement, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Childhelp.

Nathan is a graduate of Ashland University in 2002 with a double major in Finance and Economics. While at Ashland, he participated in the Eagle Investment Group and the Varsity Baseball team. In 2013, Nathan was inducted into the Ashland University Athletic Hall of Fame and in 2016 he received the Young Alumnus Award.

Nathan and his wife, Alyssa, reside in Virginia with their two children, Kennedy and Rowan.
